How to Write an ARFR Letter | At Risk of Retention Letter

Each school has an option of creating a letter and attaching it with their report cards/progress reports as needed.

Here is a template to get you started.

At [SCHOOL] we hold high standards for our students and work extremely hard to ensure that all children achieve at their potential. Retention decisions are not made until May or June, based on what is best for an individual child’s needs and future achievement. 

However, we are committed to strong family communication and we wanted to inform you that based on his current data, your scholar is currently at risk for retention. 

Please review your child’s Promotional Status data for additional information.

Our school team is working hard to ensure your child’s success, and we are eager to discuss next steps with you. The goal of informing you of your child’s current status is to begin the process of brainstorming ways we can work together to help your child meet grade level goals. 

We look forward to working with you and brainstorming ways to support your scholar’s progress.
