(Please note that, while these days should be set up at the beginning of the year, they must be set up at least 24 hours before the day of the Saturday school or a mid-year change in the calendar, such as new or removed Staff PD day)
How to Update School Calendar for Saturday School
The steps below will allow you to set up PowerSchool and DeansList for Saturday schools where all, some, or one grade are in attendance.
- Access your school's calendar by logging into PowerSchool Administrator and clicking on Setup > School in the left navigation
- Then, click on Calendaring > Calendar Setup and click on the month when the Saturday school occurs on the top of the page that comes up
- By default, all fields will be blank for a Saturday except for Membership Value, which defaults to a 0. You will need to select Regular for Cycle Day (NCA should choose Friday), Standard for Bell Schedule, check the box under School In-Session, change the Membership Value to 1, change the Type to In Session, and add a Note that indicates that this will be a Saturday school and which grades are attending (see screenshot at the bottom of this article for an example)
- Most importantly, under Tracks In-Session, please check the grade levels that will be in session using the chart below to determine which ones to check:

Make sure to hit submit once you make a change - DeansList will update the following day, which will allow you to take attendance. Only grades that you checked under Tracks In-Session will "count," so even if you mark a 4th grader absent on a day when you've checked tracks A, B, C, and D, it won't count against that student's ADA on the attendance dashboard.
How to Update School Calendar for Mid-Year Calendar Changes
When to use this: if your region or school changes any days after the start of the year. For example, adding or removing a staff PD day.
Make sure to update PowerSchool using these steps below 24 hours before the day that has a calendar change. Without doing so will not allow for attendance to be taken in the morning, and/or student records will have incorrect attendance data.
- Access your school's calendar by logging into PowerSchool Administrator and clicking on Setup > School in the left navigation
- Then, click on Calendaring > Calendar Setup and click on the month when the calendar day change occurs
- To change from a non-school day to a school day:
- By default, all fields will be blank for a non-school day. You will need to select Regular for Cycle Day, Standard for Bell Schedule, check the box under School In-Session, change the Membership Value to 1, change the Type to In Session, and add a Note that indicates the reason for the day change.
- Most importantly, under Tracks In-Session, please check the grade levels that will be in session using the chart below to determine which ones to check:

- To change from a school day to a non-school day:
- Change the settings for the specific day so that it looks the same as a "Sunday" off day. Make sure that In Session is unchecked, and Membership Value is 0.
