This article addresses two NJ state testing processes that need to be completed for students classified as English Language Learners.
- The first process is how to indicate whether a student is taking ACCESS 2.0 and NJSLA-ELA, just ACCESS, or just NJSLA.
- The second process is how to indicate which (if any) accommodations ELL students need for state assessments
Indicating test type
- Look up the student in PowerSchool Admin and select Information > State/Province - NJ on the left navigation bar
- Click on the tab labeled NJSLA (the new name for the PARCC)
- Use the pull-down menus labeled ELA State Assessment Name and Math State Assessment Name to indicate which test(s) the student should take in each category (it will default to NJSLA for both if the settings aren't changed)
Indicating ELL accommodations
- On the same NJSLA tab where you indicate the test type, scroll to the final section of the page, which is labeled NJSLA Accommodations
- For most accommodations, the interface requires you to indicate whether it applies to ELA, math, or both, but please note that some (like extended time) have separate drop-down menus for each test
- Guidance on the various accommodations can be found in the manual attached at the bottom of this article.
