Outlook has a built in feature that caches up to 1000 email addresses using an autocomplete function. A major drawback of this feature is that the entries are static and cannot be updated, which can easily lead to email bounce-backs if you are not careful. This means that despite changing a contact's email address several times, Outlook will always suggest the first email address that was used.
Below are instructions on how to remove old static email addresses that are cached to circumvent potential emails bouncing.
- In your Outlook client, click on New E-mail.
- In the To: field, type the first three characters of the cached name to trigger the AutoComplete feature. You may get multiple results from Outlook.
- Highlight the name or email address by hovering over it. To clear the address from the Outlook Cache, click on the X icon located next to the address name.
