Purpose:
This document outlines the steps to enroll in Google Multifactor Authentication (Google 2-Step Verification) on an Android device using Google Authenticator.
This article is specific to Android devices. For iPhone/iPad click here.
Step 1: Installing Google Authenticator
Note: If Google Authenticator is already installed on your device, please skip to Step 2: Google Authenticator Enrollment.
- Open “Play Store”
, search for “Google Authenticator”, and tap “Install”.

Tap “Open” when the authenticator installation is complete.
- Tap "Get started" on the "Stronger security with Google Authenticator" welcome screen.

You can choose from the following Google Authenticator profile options:

Continue as (current Google account): Allows you to use your personal account to store authenticator codes.
Note: If you have codes stored here already on a different device, they will automatically migrate over to the new device.

Add another account: Allows you to add your work account (@apps.teamschools.org or @kippmiami.org Google account) to store authenticator codes. (Setup Work Profile - Android)
Note: If you have codes stored here already on a different device, they will automatically migrate over to the new device.

Use without an account: Codes will not migrate over to a new device.

You can add authentication codes after you've chosen an account to use.
Congratulations! You've successfully completed the first step in setting up MFA. Please continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Google Authenticator Enrollment
Note: If you have yet to do so, please install Google Authenticator on your mobile device and then follow the below steps.

Open your Google Chrome Browser and navigate to “https://accounts.google.com” and sign-in to your Google account.

Click “Security & sign-in” in the left side navigation menu.

Click "Authenticator" under the “How you sign in to Google” section.

On the “Authenticator app” screen, click “Set up authenticator”.

Scan the QR code using Google Authenticator, click "Next", enter the QR code from Google Authenticator app, click "Verify, and click "Turn on".

Verify that "Authenticator" has a green "check mark inside a circle" and click "Turn on 2-Step Verification" on the "Turn on 2-Step Verification" page.

Click "Done" on the confirmation page.
- Please proceed to "Step 3: Verify Google MFA is On" to confirm that Google MFA is "ON".
Step 3: Verify Google MFA is On
- Open your Google Chrome Browser and navigate to https://myaccount.google.com/security.

Ensure that "2-Step Verification" shows "On since XXXX" in section "How you sign into Google".
Note: If "2-Step Verification is Off", you have not completed Google MFA enrollment.
You have successfully set up the Google Authenticator enrollment method! The next time you log in, you will be prompted to use MFA!
